Baseball's Win Streak Hits 8 with Minnesota Sweep

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program continues to play well as they extended their win streak to eight straight games after they completed a two-game sweep over Minnesota State & Technical College on Wednesday afternoon at the RussMatt Tournament in Auburndale, Fla.  

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 7, Minnesota State & Tech 8 (Final)

The Vikings bats were on fire once again as they tallied 11 runs on 11 hits, including a big six-run inning in the second inning. Jeremy Taggart and Colin Lynch led the charge for the Vikings as the duo combined for five hits, two runs scored and three RBIs. Taggart doubled in the second inning, which scored Connor Waiting to put the Vikings up 7-3. The next batter, Brendan Connolly reached on an error, which allowed Lynch and Taggart to score, cementing the Vikings six-run rally.

The Vikings utilized four pitchers with Cole Flannery earning the win in relief. Flannery tossed four innings and allowed four runs on five hits with seven strike outs. Kwintin Nurse entered the game in the seventh inning to close out the final two outs to record his first save of the season.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 12, Minnesota State & Tech 5 (Final)

In the final game of the day, Hudson Valley's offense continued to roll as they accumulated 12 runs on 14 hits and were led by Matthew Carrera's three hits. Carrera has been an on-base machine this season and scored three runs on the day. Connolly, Waiting and Ethan Pues all recorded two hits in the game and combined to score four runs and drove in seven RBIs.

Jason Savattere earned the win in relief after tossing three innings. He did not allow a run and gave up only two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Richie Tamsett closed out the final three innings of the game, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

ON DECK:

The baseball team is off tomorrow before they close out their spring trip on Friday, March 15th when they take on Holyoke for a doubleheader in Auburndale, Fla. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
