Baseball Sweeps Rhode Island

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program scored runs in bunches as they completed a two-game sweep over Community College of Rhode Island on Tuesday evening at the RussMatt Tournament in Auburndale, Fla.  

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 7, CC of Rhode Island 1 (Final)

The Vikings scored six runs in the sixth inning to pull away from CCRI to win their first game at the RussMatt Tournament. The Vikings had three individuals record multi-hit games with Matthew Carrera leading the way, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Anthony Rizzo and Tyree Jackson also collected two hits and scored a run.

Aidan Chrysler recorded the big hit in the sixth inning as he connected on a first-pitch home run over the left field wall to score Jayden Kennedy and Jackson.

On the mound, Hunter Stolov threw a gem, tossing seven complete innings and allowed just one run on five hits and struck out seven batters. Stolov was surgical on the mound as he faced 26 batters and threw only 72 pitches (58 strikes).

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 14, CC of Rhode Island 4 (Final-5 Innings)

In the final game of the day, the Vikings made quick work of Rhode Island as they completed the game in five innings as a result of the 10-run rule. Carrera continued to get on base as he went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs with one RBI.

Connor Waiting also scored three runs after going 1-for-1 at the plate with a pair of walks and an RBI. Brendan Connolly recorded two hits and drove in four runs, including two doubles. Ethan Pues slammed the door closed on Rhode Island in the fourth inning as he connected for a two-run home run over the centerfield wall.

The Vikings pitching also had another nice game as Andrew Wilson, Tyler Murray and Jimmy Wilson combined to allow four runs on four hits with nine strikeouts. Andrew Wilson earned the win after tossing three innings, allowing three runs with seven strikeouts.

Up next for the baseball team is day two of the RussMatt Tournament as they will play a doubleheader against Minnesota State Community and Technical College beginning at 9:45 a.m. in Auburndale, Fla.
