The Hudson Valley Community College baseball season ended abruptly as they Vikings were eliminated from the 2023 NJCAA Region 3 Championships after they were defeated 10-0 in five innings to Erie Community College on Saturday morning at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.

Erie put the Vikings away early as they scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning and the Vikings offense was unable to tie together any kind of rally as they combined for three hits over the five innings of play in the first elimination game of the Region 3 Championships.

Erie tallied two more runs in the third inning to activate the 5-inning mercy rule, per the NJCAA Region 3 handbook, to stave off elimination and send the Vikings home for the year.

Two Vikings recorded hits with Josh Foglia and Brendan Curry finishing the game 1-for-2 at the plate. On the mound, three pitchers combined for 4.0 innings and 10 runs on 10 hits against a tough Erie program.

The Vikings closed out the season with a 27-19 record, which was an 11-win improved from 2022 and went 16-4 at home, which played a huge factor in the Vikings landing the No. 2 seed in the eastern division. Over the 46 games played, the Vikings scored 353 runs, batted .350 and slugged 18 home runs on the year. The baseball program will regroup and start preparing for the 2024 season with another action packed off-season schedule in the fall 2023 semester.
