Baseball Falls in Playoff Opener 8-7 in 10 Innings

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team lost a heartbreaking, extra-inning playoff game 8-7 to the top-seeded Herkimer Generals at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY

The Vikings trailed following a two-run third inning by the Generals, but regroups as they rallied with a four-run sixth inning to pull ahead 4-2. The remaining three innings were back-and-forth with the Generals jumping ahead 5-4 in the seventh inning and the Vikings needing two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings with the score tied 7-7.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Generals won in walk-off fashion with an RBI single to left centerfield for the win, sending the Vikings to the elimination game against Erie on Saturday at 11 AM at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY.

Leading the way for the Vikings offense was Michael Talavera, Colin Lynch and Brendan Curry, who each finished the game with two hits. Lynch finished the game 2-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored. Jaden Ross went 1-for-5 at the plate and scored two of Hudson Valley's seven runs. 

On the mound, Luis Misla pitched well as he tossed 7.1 innings and gave up six runs (5 earned) on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts. Aidan McPhail and Ethan Thompson pitched in relief to close out the remaining innings and combined for four hits and two runs.
