The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team split the much-anticipated road doubleheader with Cayuga on Sunday afternoon in Auburn, NY as the programs jockey for Region 3 postseason seeding.

GAME ONE: Cayuga 5, Hudson Valley 3 (Final)

The first game went down to the wire with Cayuga pulling away late to secure the 5-3 win. Hudson Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Jaden Ross scored on a ground out by Brendan Curry. Ross kicked off the inning with a single to left field and Colin Lynch immediately followed him with a single to center field to set up Ross' run.

Cayuga stormed back in the third inning, which was highlighted by a three-run home run by Fernando Espinal. The next half inning, the Vikings responded with two runs, tying the game up at 3-3. Juan Abreu started with a leadoff single, followed by an RBI double by Connor Waiting. Curry closed out the rally with an RBI single to center field to score Waiting.

Cayuga pulled away with back-to-back runs in the fourth and fifth inning to walk away with the victory.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 6, Cayuga 3 (Final)

In the final game of the day, the Vikings earned the much-needed road split against the Spartans, who sit above the Vikings in the Region 3 standings.

Hudson Valley used a three-run seventh inning rally to take the win. Jaden Ross started things off with a leadoff walk and was immediately followed by back-to-back hits by Colin Lynch and Jeremy Taggart. Lynch doubled to center field and Taggart drove in both runs with a two-RBI single to right field. Tj Strevell kept the pressure on with a triple and later scored on a passed ball to put Hudson Valley ahead by three.

Chance Herrington closed out the game as he shut down the heart of the Spartans lineup to earn the win in relief.
