Baseball Sweeps Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program completed their home series sweep of Genesee on Sunday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium. The Vikings closed out the season series with Genesee, winning 3-of-4 games over the weekend.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 7, Genesee 1

The Vikings received another pitching gem from its starting rotation in the opening game of the series as Jacob Lapham tossed a complete game, throwing seven innings and he allowed one run on five hits with two walks and eight strike outs in the game. Lapham faced 30 batters and threw 1-7 pitches (70 for strikes). 

Mike Talavera led the offense as he was one of four Vikings to collect two hits in the game. Talavera scored two runs, drove in one RBI and finished with a pair of extra-base hits, as double in the fifth and a triple in the first, which ended with an RBI ground out by Foglia to allow Talavera to score the game's first run.

Connor Waiting had a big game at the plate as well. Waiting finished 2-for-3 and connected on a monster home run to deep centerfield in the fourth inning.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 12, Genesee 5  

The Vikings completed the sweep behind a tremendous pitching performance by Aidan McPhail, who tossed 4.1 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. All five runs were scored in the fourth inning. Chance Herrington entered the game in relief to close out the game's final 2.2 innings. Herrington allowed one run and struck out two batters.

Offensively, the Vikings had five individuals collect multiple hits, including Juan Abreu, who finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Jaden Ross also came through late in the game as he connected for a big fly over the fourth inning, which solidified the Vikings big five run fourth inning.

Tj Strevell contributed with two doubles and scored two runs in three at-bats. Talavera also doubled and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.

The Vikings also found its rhythm on the bases as they reeled in five stolen bases, three from Abreu and one each from Ross and Talavera.  

ON DECK:

The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday, April 18 as they are scheduled to close out their season series with SUNY Broome in Binghamton, NY. The doubleheader is expected to begin at 3 p.m.
