The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program ran into a potent Herkimer Generals squad which caused havoc on the Vikings as they were defeated by the reigning NJCAA Division III Champions on Saturday afternoon in Herkimer, NY.

GAME ONE: Herkimer 14, Hudson Valley 4 (6 Innings)

The Vikings jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead to kick off the game as Tj Strevell stated with a lead off hit-by-pitch. Strevell later advanced to third following a Jaden Ross single and a fielder's choice on Josh Foglia's hit to shortstop. Strevell scored the run on an error by the catcher.

After that, the Vikings struggled as Luis Misla allowed three hits and seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, including six walks in the inning. The Vikings worked to fight their way back, scoring two runs in the third innings and one more in the fourth, but they couldn't hold the Generals offense as they went on to score seven more runs in the final three innings of the game.

A highlight of the game was a two-run home run by Foglia, which he sent over the right field fence, scoring Ross. In the fourth, Brayden Mann lead the inning off with a double and later scored a ground out to shortstop by Jeremy Taggart.

GAME TWO: Herkimer 15, Hudson Valley 2 (5 innings)

In the final game, the Vikings jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead again in the top of the first inning when Juan Abreu grounds out to second base to allow Strevell to score the run. Foglia was caught out at home as he was trying to score a second run on the play. Abreu later scored again as he hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, which turned out to be the only hit for the Vikings in the second game.

Jacob Lapham took the start for Hudson Valley and lasted four innings, allowing five hits and nine runs while striking out eight batters. Kwintin Nurse entered the game in relief and tossed the final two-thirds of the game in the fifth inning.

The baseball team will regroup as they are home on Thursday, April 13 when they welcome Herkimer to Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of HVCC. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
