The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Adirondack for a positive start in Region 3 play.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 9, Adirondack 6 (FINAL)

The first game featured a magnificent pitching performance by sophomore Jacob Lapham, who tossed five complete innings while allowing one run on three hits and struck out 11 batters, including eight straight strikeouts as Lapham struck out the side in the third and fourth innings.

After falling behind in the top of the first, the Vikings rallied to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning and went on to score four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 6-1 advantage. SUNY Adirondack never faltered though as they rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Vikings entered the bullpen to close out the final couple of innings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Vikings stayed focused and scored three more runs as they secured the 9-6 win. In the sixth, Tj Strevell scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Talavera. Connor Waiting later singled in the inning to score Josh Foglia and then Anthony Rizzo singled to right center field for an RBI, scoring Waiting.

Aidan McPhail (1-0) earned the win in relief as he tossed one inning while allowing one run on one hit and struck out two batters.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 9, Adirondack 1 (FINAL)

In the final game of the day, the Vikings offense came to life in the opening innings of the game, scoring seven runs in the first three innings of the game.

In the first inning, Strevell got things started with a leadoff single up the middle and later scored on a wild pitch. Jaden Ross then reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by Talavera. Talavera scored on the next at-bat when Waiting doubled to left-center field.

Hudson Valley also had a big inning in the third inning, which was kicked off by a single to right field by Ross. Talavera connected again with an RBI double to right-center field, which allowed Ross to score. The final runs of the inning came from Juan Abreu, who singled to right field and drove in two runs, Waiting and Talavera.

Ethan Thompson (1-2) earned his first win of the season as he tossed five complete innings and allowed one run on three hits, while striking out eight batters and four walks. Chance Herrington closed out the final two innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout, while facing eight batters.
