The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program was defeated 8-7 to Monroe Bronx on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of HVCC.

Hudson Valley trailed late in the nine-inning game 8-2 and put together a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, falling just short of forcing extra innings in a highly competitive home-opener for the Vikings.

In the final inning, Hudson Valley scored three runs before recording an out. Connor Waiting kicked off the rally with a lead-off walk. Anthony Rizzo follow with a single to right field and another walk to Carson Patrick, set the stage for a bases-loaded single to centerfield by pinch-hitter Alexander Marino, scoring Waiting.

The next batter, Tj Strevell lined a bases-clearing triple to left field, which scored Rizzo, Patrick and Marino and the Vikings now trailed 8-6 with all three outs remaining in the inning. Josh Foglia kept the rally going with a RBI single to left field, allowing Strevell to score, and the Vikings trailed 8-7 with the middle of the lineup due up. Foglia finished with a team-high two hits in four at-bats and Strevell added two runs scored to go with his team-leading three RBIs.

The next three batters recorded outs in order by Monroe Bronx and the Express earned the win despite the late game heroics by the Vikings.
