The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team split the doubleheader against a competitive Mohawk Valley program on Sunday afternoon in Utica, NY.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 3, Mohawk Valley 1

In the opening game, the Vikings took the first game behind the arm of Luis Misla, who tossed four complete innings and struck out six batters. In relief, Chance Herrington gave a tremendous performance to earn the three-inning save. Herrington tossed three innings and gave up only one hit in 10 at-bats.

The top of the lineup accounted for all three of the Vikings runs with Jaden Ross leading the way with two hits and two runs scored, both team-highs. Ross started the game with an RBI double, scoring Jack Defayette. Ross later scored in the first when the Hawks caught Josh Foglia stealing second.

Ross once again doubled in the fifth inning and later scored on the RBI single by Ian Martinez, which gave the Vikings a necessary cushion over the Hawks as they defense and pitching closed out the team win.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 0, Mohawk Valley 3

In the final game of the day, the Vikings offense was shut down by the Hawks defense and pitching staff as they collected only one hit in the final game of the series. TJ Strevell earned the Vikings lone hit, a double in the third inning.

On the mound, Austin Walsh and pitched a gem for his team with a complete game, six hit performance. Walsh did not walk a batter and struck out six against the Hawks 24 at-bats today.
