The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team had to overcome a lengthy rain delay to complete the two game home series against Cayuga Community College on Thursday evening.

GAME ONE: Cayuga 21, Hudson Valley 11

In the opening game of the series, the Vikings jumped out early on the Spartans, scoring three first inning runs. But the lead evaporated quickly as the Vikings gave up seven runs to Cayuga in the second inning and was followed by a six-run inning by the Spartans in the fourth to pull away from Hudson Valley.

The rain delay started around 3:30 PM and the game resumed at 6 p.m. with the Vikings resuming play batting in the bottom of the fourth inning. After the delay, the Spartans outscored Hudson Valley 8-6, but the early deficit was too much to overcome for the Vikings.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 10, Adirondack 0 (5 innings)

In the final game of the day with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m., the Vikings fell behind in the first inning, but fought back to retake the lead with a six run second inning.

Cayuga pulled away in the fifth inning when they scored six more runs and then hit the Vikings hard in the top of the seventh innings, scoring 11 total runs to guarantee the day one sweep of Hudson Valley.
