The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program dropped its twin bill against a tough, nationally-ranked Herkimer program on Saturday afternoon to win the Region 3 series, following the epic 10-inning game last Thursday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Herkimer 8, Hudson Valley 2

The Vikings scored both of their runs in the third inning when TJ Strevell started things off with a leadoff single. Strevell later advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Smith and advanced to third on a defensive indifference. Strevell and Jacob Hall both scored later in the inning when Jack Defayette grounded out to first and Jaden Ross reached base on a Herkimer error.

Austin Walsh took the start for the Vikings and tossed 4.2 innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Albert Vargas finished the game in reliege and gave up one run on one hit with a strikeout.

GAME TWO: Herkimer 12, Hudson Valley 1

Hudson Valley took advantage of poor Herkimer defense to start the second game of the day. Following a walk to Jaden Ross, he advanced on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a Mike Talavera ground out to first base. Ian Martinez doubled in the first and advanced to third on a passed ball, but was left on base as the inning ended.

Herkimer pitching and the defense shut down the Vikings offense for the remainder of the game as Hudson Valley managed one more hit, a double by Josh Foglia in the top of the fourth inning.
