Baseball Falls Short to Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team dropped another close game 5-3 to fellow Region 3 member Genesee on Monday afternoon in Winter Haven, Fla. In day one of the RussMatt Central Florida Spring Baseball Tournament. 

Hudson Valley came out of the gates strong, collecting three hits and scoring one run in the opening half of the first inning. Starting pitcher, Luis Misla kept the Cougars on their toes through five innings, when they finally connected for a pair of runs on the Vikings starter. Misla tossed 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on one hit with eight strikeouts, while walking a pair of Cougars. 

In the seventh inning, the Vikings tied the game back up at 2-2 when Tj Strevell scored on a two-out, RBI single by Paul Fernandez.However, Genesee pulled away for good on the Vikings in the bottom half of the seventh inning when the posted a three-spot from four hits on Hudson Valley's Jacob Lapham

The Vikings Mike "Bam" Talavera collected his second home run in as many games to cut into the deficit, but the Vikings could not overcome the late game attack Genesee pieced together in the seventh.  

The Vikings are off tomorrow and will return to spring break action on Wednesday, March 16 when they play a scheduled 9-inning game against Prairie State College at 9:30 a.m.
