The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team got a jump start to their spring break with a single 9-inning game at Harford Community College, a pitstop as they make their way to Florida for next week's RussMatt Baseball Tournament. Harford defeated the Vikings 11-8.

Hudson Valley's Freddie Callo took the start on the bump and gave up two early runs in the first inning. But the Vikings recovered in the next three innings as they combined to score 6 runs, taking a 6-4 lead over Harford as they entered the bottom of the fourth inning. Mike Talavera highlighted the Vikings run with a three-run home run over the left field fence in the third inning. Talavera finished the game hitting 2-for-5 with one run and four runs batted in.

Harford responded over the course of the next three innings, outscoring the Vikings 5-1, highlighted by a two-run sixth inning by Harford to take a 9-7 advantage. Harford later connected for a timely two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 11-8 and as a result they put a stop to the Vikings attempt to change momentum during the late innings.

The Vikings went down in order in the eighth inning. Jacob Lapham entered the game in relief at the bottom of the inning and shutdown Harford with two strikeouts and a walk, keeping the game within striking distance for Hudson Valley's final at-bats.

Josh Foglia also finished with two hits with a walk and scored twice for Hudson Valley. Jaden Ross finished the game 1-for-4 at the plate with a double, run scored and an RBI. On the mound for the Vikings, Austin Walsh was credited with the loss after going 1.1 innings and gave up three runs, one earned on four walks.

The Vikings will continue their travel down to Florida and will resume play on Monday, March 14 when they take on Genesee in a 9-inning game at the RussMatt Spring Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
