The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program (11-6) earned a series sweep against Fulton-Montgomery on Thursday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

Game One: Hudson Valley 8, Fulton-Montgomery 2

The Vikings starting pitcher James Rubino (North Greenbush/LaSalle Institute) tossed a gem for Hudson Valley in game one of the doubleheader. Rubino, limited in his last outing, took the mound and tossed six complete innings with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Rubino faced 22 batters and allowed two runs on two hits and walked one batter. 

After missing the last nine games due to an injury, Nick Hansen (Troy/LaSalle Institute) connected for a solo home run over the left field fence in his first at-bat in the second inning. His home run tied the game up at 2-2. Hansen finished the game hitting 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

As a team, Hudson Valley tallied eight extra-base hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run. 

Game Two: Hudson Valley 9, Fulton-Montgomery 7

In the second game, Tim Cramer (Colonie/Colonie) took the mound and started the game by striking out five straight hitters and finished the game with seven total strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. As a team, the Vikings combined to strikeout 13 Raiders in game two. 

Following the 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first, the Vikings jumped out on the Raiders in the home half by scoring five runs on four hits in the frame. Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, N.D./Mandan) drove in the first run of the game with his RBI single. Nick Thomas (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) followed Wenstrom with a sac-fly to right field, which scored Riley Nagle (Dolgeville/Dolgeville). Ben Grant (Guilderland/Guilderland) closed out the inning with a 2-RBI single, scoring Matt Dagostino (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) and Anthony Raimo (Guilderland/Guilderland). 

Thomas finished the game with three RBIs as he also hit a 2-RBI double in the fourth inning. Wenstrom and Nagle were the only two Vikings to record multiple hits in the game, with Nagle leading the charge to two doubles.

Dylan Sheely (Alplaus/Niskayuna) closed the door on the Raiders in the seventh inning to earn the save. Sheely tossed a complete inning with one strikeout, two walks and one run scored. 

Hudson Valley continues its home game stand with another doubleheader this Saturday, April 13 against ASA Brooklyn. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
