Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (20-10) extended their win streak to five straight games following the two game sweep over Columbia-Greene on Saturday afternoon in Hudson, NY. 

Game One: Hudson Valley 17, Columbia-Greene 7 (8 innings)

The Vikings fought their way back to defeat Columbia-Greene in extra innings after trailing 6-2 at the end of three innings. The Twins tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings but the Vikings quickly responded with a 10-run eighth inning to take game one. 

The bottom of the Hudson Valley batting order were the highlight of the game. Jacob LaFerriere(Troy/La Salle Institute), Ryan Starr(Schenectady/Mohonasen) and Ben Grant(Guilderland/Guilderland) combined to go 6-for-9 at the plate and scored seven runs and recorded five RBIs. Grant finished 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBIs which included his first home run of the season. 

Jacob Shippey (Charlton/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) came in relieve for the Vikings and shutdown the Twins offense by tossing five innings and gave up only one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. 

Game Two: Hudson Valley 15, Columbia-Greene 0 (6 innings)

To secure the sweep, the Vikings were led by the dominate pitching by Chris Kordziel(Rotterdam/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) who tossed a complete game shutout and allowed one hit, one walk with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 15 runs on 13 hits and tallied 11 walks. Jackson Wenstrom(Mandan, North Dakota/Mandan) went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored four runs with three RBIs, which included a home run and a double. 

Grant continued to swing a hot bat for the Vikings after going 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored. Salvatore Pezzolla(East Greenbush/La Salle Institute) went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two Vikings baserunners. 

LaFerriere also improved his average after connecting for two base hits with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Vikings are back in action tomorrow, May 6 as they travel to play two important games against Mohawk Valley. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
