Baseball Earns Split at Jefferson

Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (16-10) took the series split on the road at Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon.

Game One: Hudson Valley 6, Jefferson 11

The Vikings gave up four runs in the second inning and couldn't overcome the early deficit in game one. Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, North Dakota/Mandan) continued to swing a hot bat as he finished 2-for-3 with a double and a home run with three RBIs. Entering the day, Wenstrom was leading the NJCAA Region 3 with a .494 batting average.

Nick Thomas (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) produced an RBI double in the fifth inning and Zach Hyland (Clifton Park/Shenendehow) went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

James Rubino (North Greenbush/La Salle Institute) took the loss on the mound after tossing 4.0 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 11, Jefferson 2

The Vikings recovered from the game one loss and put six runs on the board in the seventh inning to earn the series split. Wenstrom led the Vikings once again, going 3-for-4 with a double and another home run with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Luuk Visser (Holland, Netherlands/Thorbecke) played a huge role in the Vikings big seventh inning as he connected for a 3 RBI single to help extend their lead to 11-2. Derek Miller (Westernville/Rome Free Academy) finished the game with two hits and scored three runs.

Tim Cramer (Colonie/Colonie) earned the win following a complete game with three hits allowed and a season high 12 strikeouts.

The Vikings are scheduled to be home again on Thursday, May 3 as they welcome Jefferson to Troy, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Joe Bruno Stadium.
