Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (14-8) completed the series sweep against Schenectady County Community College on Thursday evening at Joe Bruno Stadium.

Game One: Hudson Valley 5, Schenectady 2

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead on Schenectady and Ryan Shumway (Stephentown/Berlin) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts for his first win of the 2018 season.

Nick Hansen (Troy/La Salle Institute) led the Vikings with two hits and drove in two RBIs, which included an RBI single in the Vikings three-run first inning to give Hudson Valley the early momentum.

Derek Miller (Westernville/Rome Free Academy) and Salvatore Pezzolla (East Greenbush/La Salle Institute) each scored two runs. Miller scored two run after reaching base with a pair of walks and stole two bases. Pezzolla and Luuk Visser (Holland, Netherlands/Thorbecke) were the only Vikings to secure an extra base hit when he hit an RBI double in the fourth inning. Visser connected for a two-RBI double in the first inning of the game.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 10, Schenectady 0 (6 Innings)

The Vikings offense took advantage of eight walks and a Schenectady error in the first three innings of the game and scored seven runs as a result of their patience at the plate. The seven runs provided the Vikings a comfortable cushion for starting pitcher Christian Nolan (Guilderland/Guilderland), who tossed a complete game, allowing four hits, three walks with five strikeouts in six innings.

Visser took the reins in game two as the Vikings top offensive player after going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and one RBI, including a leadoff double in the fourth inning.

Shortstop Ben Grant (Guilderland/Guilderland) benefitted from the Schenectady walks as he was able to drive in two runs on his bases-loaded single in the first inning.
