Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (12-8) completed the two game sweep on the road at Schenectady County Community College this afternoon.

Game One: Hudson Valley 9, Schenectady 6

Hudson Valley's offense was ready to play this afternoon as three Vikings went deep, including two home runs from Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, North Dakota/Mandan). Wenstrom collected four more hits and drove in three runs as he continues to be one of the hottest hitters in the region, hitting .507 on the year with 35 hits and 33 runs scored following today's games.

Derek Miller (Westernville/Rome Free Academy) carried a big stick today in game one as he also connected for a two-run home run in the second inning to help the Vikings extend their lead to 6-1. Nick Thomas (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) joined the party with a three-run home run of his own in the opening inning of the game.

James Rubino (North Greenbush/La Salle Institute) got off to a rough start on the mound as he lasted 2.0+ innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Jacob Shippey (Charlton/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) earned the win as he relieved Rubino in the third inning. Shippey shut down Schenectady's lineup, allowing only one baserunner, a walk in the seventh inning.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 5, Schenectady 4

The Vikings scored in four consecutive innings and secured the series sweep with timely hitting as they combined for five runs on seven hits in their game two win. Wenstrom added two more hits, including an RBI double in the crucial fifth inning to keep the Vikings ahead of Schenectady late in the game.

Jonathan Montesanti (Niskayuna/Colonie) and Clayton Patrick (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) each drove in two Vikings baserunners in the win. Montesanti had a sac fly in the third and an RBI single to bring Wenstrom home in the fifth inning. Patrick recorded his RBIs on two hits, a single in the second and a double in the fourth inning.

Trevor Kniffin (Clarksville/Bethlehem) earned the start on the mound and gave the Vikings 4.0 complete innings and one run on three hits for his first win of the 2018 season. Ryan Shumway (Stephentown/Berlin) entered the game in the seventh to stop the Schenectady attack, recording the final two outs of the game for his first save of the season.
