Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (9-7) had their six game win streak snapped as they dropped two hard fought and competitive games against No.10 Herkimer on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium.

Game One: Hudson Valley 4, Herkimer 5 (8 innings)

The Vikings entered the seventh inning leading the Generals 3-2 with one out when Herkimer connected on an outside pitch for a home run down the right field line, tying the game at 3-3 and set up an opportunity for them to win it outright as they also scored the go-ahead run in the seventh.

Jonathan Montesanti (Niskayuna/Colonie) stepped up to the plate with two outs and had worked a full count. As the Vikings were seconds away from losing the game, Montesanti connected on a pitch and sent it over the left field fence, tying the game and giving the Vikings new life with extra innings.

Unfortunately, Herkimer scored again in the eighth inning and shut down the Vikings in the home half to secure the 5-4 win.

Nicholas Zuba (East Greenbush/Columbia) had a quality start for the Vikings as he went 4.1 innings and allowed only two Herkimer runs to score. Chris Kordziel (Rotterdam/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) took the loss as he pitched a complete eighth inning and allowed one run on two hits.

Game Two: Hudson Valley 6, Herkimer 15

The Vikings came out of the gates strong in the second game as they put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Herkimer consistently put the ball in play and scored 10 runs in the first four innings of the game to complete the series sweep.

The Vikings first inning consisted of five runs on five consecutive hits, including a home run by Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, North Dakota/Mandan) over the right center fence and back-to-back doubles by Salvatore Pezzolla (East Greenbush/La Salle Institute) and Montesanti. Nick Hansen and Luuk Visser (Holland, Netherlands/Thorbecke) also added base hits during the Vikings big first inning. Visser finished with two base hits, including a triple in the third inning and scored two Vikings runs in game two.

The Vikings look to avenge today's loses as they travel to play Herkimer tomorrow, Sunday, April 22 with game one scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
