Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (0-2) saw its first game action of the 2018 season as the Vikings dropped both games of the doubleheader at Frederick Community College on Monday afternoon.

Game One: Frederick 6, Hudson Valley 3

In the first game of the season, the Vikings struggled to put the ball in play as they accumulated three hits in the seven inning game. Hudson Valley entered the top of the seventh inning trailing 6-0 when the Vikings started a rally, which ended with a three-run homerun by Nick Thomas (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville).

On the mound for the Vikings, James Rubino (L, 0-1) (North Greenbush/La Salle Institute) took the loss as he tossed a complete game and gave up six runs on seven hits and recorded three strikeouts.

Game Two: Frederick 7, Hudson Valley 1

In the second game of the day, the Vikings scored early in the top of the first inning but were unable to hold the lead as Frederick scored seven runs in the final three innings of the game. The Vikings bats were still rusty from the wintry offseason as the Frederick's pitching kept Hudson Valley off balance as they struck out 17 times during the game.

Jackson Wenstron (Mandan, N.D./Mandan) collected two hits and scored the Vikings lone run in the top of the first inning. Jackson recorded a double and stole a pair of bases in an attempt to jumpstart the Vikings offense.

On the mound, Nicholas Zuba (L, 0-1) (East Greenbush/Columbia) tossed 4.2 innings and gave up five earned runs on six hits. Christian Nolan (Guilderland/Guilderland) relieved Zuba in the fifth inning and closed out the remaining 1.1 innings.

On Deck:

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday as they play Camden County at 3:30 p.m. and Bucks County at 6:30 p.m. at the Ripken Complex in Aberdeen, Maryland.
