The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (25-10) lost a best-of-three series against Onondaga Community College (32-18) in Sub Regional action over the weekend. The Vikings lost game one on Saturday evening 11-9 in 11 innings. On Sunday, Hudson Valley took game two 9-8, but lost the final deciding game by a score of 7-5.
On Saturday, the Vikings overcame an 8-0 deficit to force extra innings. Ben Julian (Troy/Wynantskill) led the team with three hits and four RBIs, and Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) added three hits in the loss. Game two was scheduled to start after the game, but due to a rain delay and more forecasted rain, the game was pushed back to Sunday.
The Vikings struck early in game two, taking a 5-0 lead behind a Brandon Cellucci (Averill Park/Troy) opposite field grand slam. Brennan Strovink (Rocky Point/Rocky Point) went 4-5 at the plate with three RBIs, and Zachary DeThomasis (CBA Albany/Rensselaer) added three hits in the win. Codey Piel (Columbia/East Greenbush) received the win on the mound, throwing 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. Hudson Valley fell behind early in game three, and couldn't overcome the deficit. Kyle Bestle (Tamarac/Troy) went 2-4 with two RBIs, and Cellucci, Strovink and Dustin Conte (Hudson/Hudson) each added two hits in the loss.
