The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (20-6) defeated Jefferson Community College (17-19) 2-0 and 5-3 on Thursday afternoon.
Caleb Gregg (Chatham/Chatham) pitched a complete-game shutout in game one, striking out four on only two hits. Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) went 2-3 and recorded both RBIs, and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh), Brady Fallon (CBA Albany/Clifton Park) and Brandon Cellucci (Averill Park/Troy) each went 1-3 in the win.
In game two, the Vikings edged Jefferson in extra innings, scoring four runs in the 11th inning. Conte pitched a strong eight innings, giving up only one unearned run on three hits. Andrew McCullough (Bethelehem/Delmar) came in in relief to earn the win, and Travis Sowards (Columbia/Nassau) recorded the last two outs of the game to pick up the save. Conte also got it done at the plate, going 2-5 with three RBIs. Zachary DeThomasis (CBA Albany/Rensselaer) had a team-high four hits, and Fallon added three hits and an RBI in the win.
The Vikings travel to Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
