The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (18-6) lost to Jefferson Community College (17-17) 4-3 and 8-7 on Tuesday afternoon.
Zachary DeThomasis (CBA Albany/Rensselaer) led the team in game one with two hits and an RBI, and Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) and Brandon Cellucci (Averill Park/Troy) each recorded an RBI in the loss. Kyle McAlonie (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) got the no-decision on the mound throwing 6.2 strong innings, striking out nine and allowing only one earned run.
Joseph Zabbara (Rocky Point/Miller Place) had a huge game in game two, but it wasn't enough to put the Vikings on top. Zabbara hit a grand slam in the first inning to put Hudson Valley up 4-0, and then followed that up at his next at-bat in the third with a solo homerun to tie the game at five. DeThomasis tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth, but Jefferson struck back in the sixth to take the lead and the win. Zabbara finished the game with six RBIs, and Kyle Bestle (Tamarac/Troy) added two hits in the loss.
The Vikings host No. 7 Herkimer tomorrow for a doubleheaders starting at 3 p.m.
