The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (18-4) split with Herkimer College (27-9) on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings took game one 6-5, but were shutout 6-0 in game two.
Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) led the Vikings in game one going 3-3 at the plate with an RBI, and, and Garrett Klahr (Shaker/Latham) added two hits and an RBI to snap Herkimer's 20-game win streak. Andrew McCullough (Bethelehem/Delmar) pitched five strong innings with four strikeouts, and Caleb Gregg (Chatham/Chatham) earned the win on the mound throwing 1.1 innings with no runs allowed.
The Vikings couldn't get anything going offensively in game two. Zachary DeThomasis (CBA Albany/Rensselaer) led the team going 1-3, and Clayton Leisenfelder (Colonie/Albany) received the loss on the mound pitching five innings and giving up all six earned runs.
The Vikings host Jefferson on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
