The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (17-3) defeated Columbia-Greene Community College (3-15) 11-1 and 13-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) led the Vikings in game one with two doubles each to combine for three RBIs, and Zachary DeThomasis (CBA Albany/Rensselaer), Ben Julian (Troy/Wynantskill), and Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) each recorded two hits and an RBI in the win. Codey Piel (Columbia/East Greenbush) received the win on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings with no runs allowed.
The Vikings jumped out to a lead in game two and wouldn't look back. Andrew McCullough (Bethelehem/Delmar) threw a 6-inning complete game, striking out six and allowing only one run. Nicolas Teitter (Saugerties/Saugerties) and Tom Spataro (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) led the Vikings with three hits and two RBIs apiece, and Kyle Bestle (Tamarac/Troy) added two hits and two RBIs in the win.
The Vikings travel to play No. 10 Herkimer next Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
