The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (4-2) defeated Schenectady County Community College (0-3) 10-0 and 13-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
Nicholas Teitter (Saugerties/Saugerties) tossed a no-hitter in game one, striking out 10 of the 15 batters he faced in five innings. Offensively, the Vikings jumped out of the gate with a 4-0 lead in the first inning with the first four batters all reaching base. Brady Fallon (CBA Albany/Clifton Park) led the team with two doubles, two RBIs and a stolen base, and Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) went 2-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) recorded four RBIs, including a bases clearing 3-run triple, and that's all the Vikings and Teitter would need to 10-run the Royals in five innings.
The Vikings got off to another quick start in game two as the first six batters all reached base, resulting in a 5-run inning. The game got close in the fifth, but Hudson Valley scored six runs in the sixth to hold off the rally. Conte went 4-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs to cap off a 6-hit day. Garrett Klahr (Shaker/Latham) recorded a team-high 5 RBIs, and Bink went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Codey Piel (Columbia/East Greenbush) earned his second win of the season, throwing 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Caleb Gregg (Chatham/Chatham) came into the game in the fifth inning with only one out and the bases loaded and was able to work out of the jam, not allowing a run to score to preserve the lead. Gregg would finish out the last two innings to earn the save on the mound.
The Vikings turn around and play at Schenectady tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
