The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (20-12) lost to Niagara County Community College (31-11) in sub-regional play on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings lost game one 4-0 and then lost game two 14-13.
The Vikings weren't able to produce at the plate and were shutout in game one. Caleb Gregg (Chatham/Chatham) got the loss on the mound pitching seven and a third innings with three strikeouts and four runs. Brandon Martinez (River Dell/River Edge, NJ) and Zach Farias (New Fairfield/New Fairfield, CT) each recorded a hit in the loss.
The Vikings came out in game two and jumped out to a 13-3 lead, but Niagara rallied in the seventh and would win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Liam Kelly (Catholic Central/Clifton Park) led the Vikings going 5-6 at the plate with six RBIs, and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) added two hits and an RBI. Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) and Dustin Conte (Hudson/Hudson) each had two RBIs in the loss.
