The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (19-9) defeated Schenectady County Community College (15-14) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 9-7 and then took game two 7-3.
The Vikings fell behind 6-0 in game one, but a Joe Bender (Guilderland/Guilderland) two-run homerun in the fourth started the rally. Hudson Valley then put up seven runs in the fifth to take the lead en route to the comeback victory. Liam Kelly (Catholic Central/Clifton Park) led the team with three hits and two RBIs, and Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) added three hits and an RBI in the win.
Corey Hommel (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) earned the win on the mound in game two for the Vikings, pitching six innings with three strikeouts. Brandon Martinez (River Dell/River Edge, NJ) hit a two-run homerun in the third and now leads the team with four on the season. Conte led the team with three hits and three RBIs, and Kelly and Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) each added two hits to complete the two-game sweep.
The Vikings host Columbia-Greene on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
