The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (13-7) lost to No. 1 Herkimer County Community College (25-3) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings dropped the first game 7-4 in extra innings, and then lost game two 6-0.
The Vikings fell behind 4-0 in game one, but a Brandon Martinez (River Dell/River Edge, NJ) three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth pulled them within one. The Vikings got another run in the bottom of the seventh on a Herkimer error to force extra innings, but the No. 1 Generals would get three runs in the top half of the eighth to earn the three-run victory.
Hudson Valley couldn't get the bats going in game two and only recorded two hits in the shutout. Ryan Smith (Hancock/Hancock) suffered his first loss of the season pitching five innings with two strikeouts.
The Vikings host Adirondack on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
