The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (11-3) defeated Clinton Community College (0-14) on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 15-2 and then took game two 5-2.
The Vikings got three early runs in game one and then a 12-run fourth put the game out of reach for Clinton. Zach Steimer (Home School/Ballston Spa) led the team with three hits, including a homerun and three RBIs. Kyle McAlonie (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) each recorded three RBIs, and Joe Bender (Guilderland/Guilderland) added two hits and two RBIs. Corey Hommel (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) got his first win of the year on the mound pitching three solid innings with six strikeouts.
The Vikings started out game two with three runs in the first again and then added two more in the fifth. Conte went six and two-thirds with ten strikeouts to pick up the victory, and Mike Yamin (Troy/Troy) came in to record the final out to earn the save. Conte also added two hits at the plate and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) chipped in two as well. Malcolm Porterfield (Albany/Albany) had a double and an RBI, and Dominick Carroll (Minisink Valley/Slate Hill) added two RBIs in the win.
The Vikings travel to Clinton on Thursday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
