The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (9-3) defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College (7-15) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 10-6, and then took game two, 6-2.
Jeff Bink's (Colonie/Colonie) two-run triple in the second inning of game one gave the Vikings an early 3-0 lead, and singles by Kyle McAlonie (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Ben Julian (Troy/Troy) made it 5-0. Joe Bender (Guilderland/Guilderland) led the team with three hits, and McAlonie and Bink each added two in the win. Kory Hutchins (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck) earned the win on the mound going six and two thirds with nine strikeouts. The Raiders made it interesting in the seventh, but Mike Yamin (Troy/Troy) came in and closed the door to record the final out of the game.
Fulton-Montgomery jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two, but the Vikings would strike back with two runs in the second to tie it up. Hudson Valley would put up four runs in the fifth to break the tie en route to a 6-2 victory. Julian and Bink led the team with three hits apiece, and McAlonie, Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson), and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) each recorded two hits in the win.
The Vikings host Clinton on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
