The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (4-2) split with Jefferson Community College (3-11) on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings lost the first game, 10-9, but were able to fight back and pull out an 11-10 victory in 10 innings in game two.
The Vikings lost an early 5-0 lead and were edged by the Cannoneers by one-run in the first game. Matt Sand (CBA/Altamont) led the Vikings with three hits and three RBIs, and Connor McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) went 3-4 at the plate in the loss.
McDonough came through in the tenth inning of game two, hitting a sac fly to bring home Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) to give the Vikings an 11-10 lead which they would close out to earn the win. Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) led the Vikings with two hits and five RBIs, including a grand slam in the second inning. Zach Farias (New Fairfield/New Fairfield, CT) hit a two-run homerun, and McDonough went 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs, one of which was the game-winner.
The Vikings host Jefferson on Thursday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
