The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (14-12) split with #8 Herkimer (24-6) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings dropped the first game, 11-1 in six innings, but came back strong in game two to win, 2-1.
Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) led the Vikings with two hits, and Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) added a hit and an RBI in the game one loss.
Game two was a different story as the Vikings came up on top. Chad Sinko (Shaker/Latham) pitched a strong 5 1/3 innings, and Hans Schmidt (Catskill/Catskill) came in relief to earn the win. Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy) doubled in the fourth to drive in a run to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Herkimer tied it up in the top of the sixth, but Hudson Valley answered back behind an RBI single by Scaccia in the bottom half of the inning. Eric Mueller (Bethlehem/Glenmont) added two hits and scored the only two runs in the victory.
The baseball team hosts Columbia-Greene on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
