The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (18-11) defeated Clinton Community College (0-22) 16-0 and 12-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Hudson Valley got on the board early with five runs in the top of the second inning. The Vikings had four consecutive doubles to start the inning by Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy), Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville), Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) and Brett Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy). They put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, scoring nine runs to go up 16-0. The nine-run inning was highlighted by a three-run homerun from Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) and a grand slam blasted by Sunkes. Sunkes led the team going 4-4 at the plate with a single, double, two homeruns, seven RBIs and four runs scored. Andrew Kramer (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) went five strong innings, and Cooper McGowan (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) came in relief to combine for the complete game shutout.
The Vikings got off to a hot start again in game two, scoring in each of the five innings. Scaccia hit his third homerun of the year in the fourth inning, finishing the game with two RBIs and two runs scored. John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) each added two hits in the victory. Sunkes picked up the win on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings, while Jarrod Ford (Hoosic Valley/Schaghticoke) and Matt Gallup (Christian Brothers Academy/Scotia) came in in the fourth and fifth to help combine for the shutout.
The Vikings travel to Fulton-Montgomery on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
