The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (10-8) defeated Mohawk Valley Community College (14-6) 3-2 and 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
In a pitcher's duel that was scoreless going into the fifth inning of game one, Hudson Valley finally got on the board with three runs. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney), Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy) and John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) each recorded an RBI in the inning. The Hawks made it interesting in the seventh, when they got a two-run double with one out and the runner advancing to third on an overthrow. Josh Temple (Cohoes/Cohoes) managed to work out of the late jam, striking out the next two batters to end the game. Temple pitched a complete game, recording eight strikeouts to earn the win on the hill. Kozak finished the game going 3-3 with an RBI, run scored and two stolen bases. Adams and Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) also contributed two hits apiece.
Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) retired the first 12 batters he faced in game two, en route to a complete game win, which included seven strikeouts. Parslow helped his own cause at the plate with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kozak had another big game with three more hits, two RBIs, a run scored and three stolen bases. Brett Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) and Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) added two hits each in the six-run victory.
The Vikings travel to Mohawk Valley for a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2 p.m.
