The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (15-18) defeated Jefferson Community College (19-23) 4-3 and 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman pitcher Josh Temple (Cohoes/Cohoes) pitched a gem in 6 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs and making seven strikeouts. Nicholas Viola (Niskayuna/Scotia) came in for the final out to earn the save in game one. Joe Amorosi (Schalmont/Rotterdam) led the team with a triple and two RBIs and Kyle Brisson (Waterford-Halfmoon/Waterford) added a double and an RBI in the win. The Vikings came out in the second game, putting up four runs in the first two innings to hold off the Cannoneers. Dennis Buckley (Christian Brothers Academy/Colonie) picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings and fanning seven batters. Michael Brienza (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Ballston Lake) picked up his first save of the year in relief, striking out three of the four batters he faced. Andrew Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) and Jesse Levine (Monticello/Monticello) led the offensive attack with two hits each in the final game of the doubleheader.
The baseball team travels to Jefferson Community College on Thursday, April 26 for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
