The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (28-14-1) swept Jamestown Community College (20-23) 9-1 and 7-2 in Sub-Regional action Saturday afternoon.
Down 1-0 in game one heading into the third, Sean Geisel's (Guilderland/Guilderland) two-run RBI and Shawn Callahan's (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) three-run home run capped off an eight-run inning for the Vikings. Geisel went 1-2 at the plate and Callahan went 2-3. Bryan Lajeunesse (Albany Academy/Watervliet) remained perfect on the year with a 6-0 record on the mound. Lajeunesse struck out eight in his sixth complete game of the year.
Callahan and Geisel were big in game two, as well, with Callahan putting the Vikings ahead 1-0 on an RBI triple in the second. In the fourth inning, Geisel hit an RBI double to go up 2-1 and the Vikings tacked on another run on a wild pitch, making it 3-1. Starting pitcher Mike Tietjen (Oneonta/Oneonta) allowed only one run and Tim Murdick (Averill Park/East Greenbush) came in late in the game to shut down the Jayhawks.
The Viking's move on to Regionals next weekend, hosted by Herkimer County Community College.
