The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (22-11, 17-5) is in first place in the Mountain Valley Conference after winning three games in two double-headers against Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18. On Saturday the two teams split as Mohawk Valley took game one in a 3 - 1 nail biter and Hudson Valley avenged its' loss in game two with a 10 - 0 victory. Sunday at Mohawk Valley, it was all Vikings as they swept the Hawks, 5 - 4 and 13 - 2.
In the loss on Saturday, Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville, Voorheesville) hit a solo homerun for the Vikings' only run. Ace, Alex Sardo (Chatham, Chatham) went the distance for the loss.
The Vikings jumped on Mohawk Valley in game two. Ian Hnatov (North Shore, Glen Head) went two-for-three with three RBIs, two of which came from a two-run blast. Nick Papas (Maple Hill, Schodack) went three-for-three with an RBI and Tyler Young (Shaker, Latham) had a two-for-four day with an RBI in the 10 - 0 win.
Game three of the weekend went into extra innings with the Vikings eventually winning in the eighth inning on a Papas RBI. Luke Burns (Delaware Academy, Bovina) went three-for-three with a two-run homerun in the second inning.
In the final game of the series, the Vikings beat up the Hawks, winning 13 - 2. Tom Lloyd (Ithaca, Ithaca) led the way offensively for Hudson Valley as he went two-for-four with four RBIs and Massaroni went three-for-four with two RBIs in the victory.
