Sophomore pitcher Nate Novak (Hudson/Hudson High School) tossed a no-hitter to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (11-10/8-1 Region III) baseball team to an 11-0 win over Adirondack Community College (2-9/2-4 Region III) in the opening game of a doubleheader in Troy. Hudson Valley also won the second game, 9-2.
Novak's dominating performance included 12 strikeouts and just one walk in five innings of work. He also was one-for-three with an RBI at the plate.
Hudson Valley tallied five runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth in the fourth inning to pull away from the Timberwolves. Sophomore Brett Weber (East Schodack/Columbia High School) was two-for-three with a double and triple to lead the Vikings offensive attack. Sophomore Andrew Brickwedel (Ballston Lake/Catholic Central High School) was two-for-three with an RBI and sophomore catcher Nick Barbera (Niskayuna/Niskayuna High School) drove in two runs.
Freshman Scott Longe (Stuyvesant/Ichabod Crane High School) had two hits and drove in four runs to pace Hudson Valley in the nightcap. Freshman catcher Jeremy Villano (Schuylerville/Schuylerville High School) was three-for-four with an RBI and freshman Max Keado (Troy/Catholic Central High School) had two hits and scored three runs.
Sophomore pitcher Matt LaValley (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) allowed one run on three hits over five innings to pick up the win on the mound. He struck out two and walked three.
