Nate Novak (Hudson/Hudson High School), a freshman on the Hudson Valley Community College baseball team, has been recognized as the NJCAA Region III Division III Player of the Year by the region's coaches. Sophomore catcher Tom Zink (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) also received All-Region recognition.
As a pitcher, Novak was 8-2 with a 1.74 earned run average. He struck out 82 batters in 63 innings of work. Novak also was the team's leading hitter with a .376 average (50-for-133). He had 11 doubles, one home run and 35 RBI. Novak also was named the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year.
Zink was a First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference selection. He leaves Hudson Valley as the college's all-time leading hitter with 121 career hits. In 2006, Zink batted .372 (61-for-164) with 13 doubles, three home runs and 40 RBI.
Hudson Valley completed its 2006 season with 26-19 record.
