The Hudson Valley Community College (26-19) baseball team had its season come to a close with a 4-3 loss at Herkimer County Community College on Tuesday in the opening round of the Region III Tournament.
Bill Arpei broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Matt Chambliss.
Trailing 2-0, Hudson Valley tied the game in the third inning on a two-run single by freshman Matt LaValley (Schenectady/Guilderland High School).
Herkimer took a 3-2 lead in its half of the third inning on an RBI infield single by Corleon Brown. The Vikings would tie it in the sixth inning when Brett Weber (East Schodack/Columbia High School) hit a solo home run to left field.
Hudson Valley had a runner on third base with one out in the ninth inning but Mario Roefaro struck out the final two Vikings to earn the save.
Hudson Valley managed just four hits in the contest. Sophomore Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) was two-for-four.
