The Hudson Valley Community College (12-11/5-2 Region III) baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Mohawk Valley Community College (7-8/5-1 Region III) this afternoon in Troy. Mohawk Valley won the opener, 3-2, and exploded for a 15-5 win in the second game.
Steve Guckemus was three-for-four and had an RBI single in the fourth inning to lead the Hawks in the opener. Keith Para went the distance on the mound to pick up the win, allowing two runs on six hits.
Sophomore catcher Tom Zink (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) had a solo home run for Hudson Valley in the opener.
Mohawk Valley capitalized in five walks and six Hudson Valley errors for the runaway win in the nightcap. Bryan Atkins was four-for-five with two RBI.
Freshmen Nick Barbera (Niskayuna/Niskayuna High School) and Dustin Teta (Schenectady/Colonie High School) had the only hits for the Vikings in the second game.
