Sophomore Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) hit a one-out two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (6-0) baseball team to a 3-2 win over Potomac State College (WV) on Saturday that set the stage for a perfect 4-0 weekend for the Vikings.
Sophomore Phil Carr (Shandaken/Ontoera High School) allowed only two runs in five innings on the mound for the Vikings against Potomac State, which finished fifth in the NJCAA Division I World Series last year and is ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA Division I poll this year. Sophomore Mark Pennisi (Troy/Troy High School) pitched the final two scoreless innings.
Hudson Valley exploded for 13 runs in the second inning to defeat Region III foe Corning Community College, 19-2, in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday. Sophomore Tom Zink (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) had four hits, including a double, and three RBI. Freshman Chris Spenello (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Catholic High School) finished with four hits and two RBI and freshman Andrew Brickwedel (Troy/Catholic Central High School) added a double, a triple, and three RBI.
Hudson Valley opened its doubleheader on Sunday with an 18-0 win over Westmoreland Community College (PA). Zink had three hits, including two doubles, and five RBI for Hudson Valley. Testo finished three-for-three with two RBI.
Freshman Mark Sidoti (East Greenbush/Bishop Maginn High School) allowed only one run on three hits to lead Hudson Valley to a 5-1 win over Montgomery Community College-Germantown, which entered the game ranked 13th in the NJCAA Division III poll.
Freshman Chris Guido (Fort Pierce, FL/Westwood High School) was two-for-three with an RBI. Freshman Ben Bushey (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls High School) also had two hits.
