The Hudson Valley Community College (27-11) baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep over Onondaga Community College (4-28) earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 9-5, and took the nightcap, 11-1.
Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) was three-for-four with a double and an RBI to lead the Vikings in the opener. Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) added two hits and two RBI. Freshman Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) also drove in two runs.
Sophomore pitcher Sean Rowland (Colonie/Colonie High School) went five innings on the mound to pick up the victory. He allowed three runs on five hits, striking out five and walking six.
Sophomore pitcher William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) hurled a complete game three-hitter for the Vikings in the second game.
He struck out nine and walked two, improving his record to 6-2 on the year. Lewis also moved into second place on the college's all-time win list with 13 victories. He only trails former Hudson Valley All-American Gary Walcot, who compiled a 15-1 record in 1970 and 1971.
Freshman Jesse Bulka (Summitt/Jefferson High School) and sophomores Craig Mastroianni (Colonie/Colonie High School) and Mike Ruffinen (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had two hits apiece for the Vikings in the second game.
