The Hudson Valley Community College (9-6/2-0 Mountain Valley Conference) baseball team kept Columbia-Greene Community College (2-2/0-2) off the scoreboard for 13 straight innings in a doubleheader sweep earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 6-0, and the nightcap, 6-3.
Sophomore pitcher Sean Rowland (Colonie/Colonie High School) hurled a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Vikings in the opener. He struck out seven and walked two.
Hudson Valley took a 4-0 lead in the second inning with the help of a two-run error. Sophomores Paul Pietrowski (Beacon/Beacon High School) and Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School) also drove in runs in the inning. Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had a double and two RBI in the opener.
Sophomore William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) managed to pitch five scoreless innings in the nightcap for the Vikings despite walking five batters and hitting two. He improved his record to 4-0 on the year. Lewis was able to get out of bases loaded jams in the third and fifth inning. He struck out seven and allowed two hits.
Sophomore Jose Duverge (Brooklyn/Christ the King High School) led Hudson Valley at the plate with two hits, including a double. Molina had a two-run double to spark a four-run third inning for the Vikings.
Sophomore Matt Ferro (Schenectady) paced Columbia-Greene with five hits on the day, including a double and two triples.
Hudson Valley, which is ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, will host Clinton Community College in a doubleheader on Friday, April 8. The first game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
