The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team opened its season with a 12-2 win at Ocean County College on Saturday, March 19. The Vikings also split with Cecil Community College over the weekend. Cecil took game one, 16-6, and Hudson Valley responded to win the nightcap, 7-6.
Sophomore pitcher William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) pitched five scoreless innings to lead Hudson Valley over Ocean County. He allowed three hits and struck out five batters to pick up his first win of the season. Freshman shortstop Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had a double and three RBI to lead Hudson Valley at the plate.
In the opening game loss to Cecil, freshman Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) had two hits, including a home run, and drove in five of Hudson Valley's six runs.
In the nightcap, sophomore pitcher Anthony Bloomfield (Albany/Bishop Maginn High School) pitched the final three innings for Hudson Valley to pick up his first save of the season. He allowed two hits and one unearned run. Testo was three-for-three at the plate, and sophomore Mike Ruffinen (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had two hits and an RBI.
