Ryan Gijon-Owen becomes first player in school history with 100 hits
The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team improved its record to 29-8 on the season with doubleheader sweep over Morrisville State College (3-16) earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 10-0, and the nightcap, 12-0.
Sophomore Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) singled to left field in the second inning of the nightcap to become the first player in school history to amass 100 career hits. He finished with three hits on the day and currently has 101 career hits.
Sophomore Rashad Barksdale (Hudson/Hudson High School) hit a three-run home run to left field to spark a seven-run fourth inning for the Vikings in the opener. Sophomore Jonathan Callahan (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) contributed two hits and two RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Jesse Hendriksen (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury High School) picked up the win in the first game to improve his record to 4-0 on the season. He scattered six hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Sophomore Kody Caulfield (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) hit a three-run home run to right field to spark the Vikings in the nightcap. Freshman Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School) added two hits and three RBI, and sophomore Steve Sayre (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) contributed two hits and two RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Gulich (Horseheads/Horseheads High School) allowed one hit over five innings to pick up the win. He fanned five and walked one.
