Annemarie Nelson (East Greenbush/Columbia High School), a freshman on the Hudson Valley Community College softball team, has been named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending April 18. In addition, Nate Jones (Horseheads/Horseheads High School), a freshman on the Hudson Valley baseball team, has been named the NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week.
Nelson led Hudson Valley to a 4-0 record last week with sweeps of Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Delhi. In 14 plate appearances she collected nine hits, two doubles, two triples, one homerun, seven RBI and two walks. In game two of the Mohawk Valley twin-bill on Monday, April 12, she was a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles.
Nelson is hitting .431 with a team-high two home runs and 21 RBI this season.
Jones won two games last week, including Hudson Valley's first no-hitter since April 16, 2001. He struck out 10, walked three, while allowing no hits against Onondaga Community College on Monday. In an 11-0 win over Adirondack Community College on Saturday, April 17, he struck out nine, walked two and allowed two hits in five innings.
Jones is 4-0 with a 5.16 ERA on the season. He has struck out 33 batters in 22.2 innings.
