Sophomore Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) drove in five runs to lead the Hudson Valley Community College baseball team to a 7-4 win over Globe Institute of Technology at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
Hudson Valley has won 11 straight games and is 26-7 on the season. It is Hudson Valley's first win over Globe (21-13), an NJCAA Division I program located in New York City, in four all-time meetings.
Gijon-Owen hit two-run singles in the fourth and eighth innings, and had a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Sophomore Kody Caulfield (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) drove in the other two Hudson Valley runs with a double in the third inning. He finished the day two-for-four at the plate.
Sophomore pitcher Rafael Espinal (Manhattan/George Washington High School) earned the win on the mound. He allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. Sophomore Jesse Hendriksen (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury High School) pitched the final three innings to get the save. He allowed one run on two hits, striking out one and walking one.
